Flying Bark announces new original 2D project “Doomsweepers”

Flying Bark, a global leader in premium animation, is thrilled to announce that a crowdfunding round is now open for original 2D animation project, Doomsweepers, in partnership with next-generation franchise development studio Lightfold and content creator and executive producer Olan Rogers (Final Space on Adult Swim).

Doomsweepers is an action “zom-com”, created and directed by fan-favourite writer/director/showrunner Sarah Harper, known for her work on Monkie Kid (LEGO), Glitch Techs (Nickelodeon), and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Nickelodeon).

Set in a mysterious research facility, Doomsweepers follows a team of misfit janitors who go from cleaning the staff room one day, to saving the world the next, and in doing so they unravel the facility’s dark secret. The candy-coloured art direction brings a unique, vibrant energy to the show that provides a visual point of difference from traditional dystopian, apocalyptic content.

For Harper, Doomsweepers was inspired by unsung heroes and finding strength in unexpected places:

“Doomsweepers follows a cute team of latex-clad cogs in a machine, knuckling down and doing their best no matter what gets thrown at them. The story is a post-pandemic side-eye at big tech, but at its heart, it's about having each other's backs, sticking together and celebrating the folks who continue to show up and do the thing. Even when the thing is scary and the world around you is falling into chaos.”

Flying Bark is well established in producing traditional 2D and CG animated high-end series and feature films, with recent credits including Stranger Things: Tales From ‘85 (Netflix), Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender (Paramount) and original series, Shaun Tan’s Tales from Outer Suburbia (ABC/BYUtv). Doomsweepers represents the studio's first foray into direct-to-fan digital content, emphasising Flying Bark’s commitment to authentic, creator-led storytelling and building stronger connections between artists and audiences.

The goal is to establish Doomsweepers as a rich multimedia universe incorporating a series, game and comics, with the first round of merchandise already available for pre-order on the Lightfold website

By kickstarting the project with a crowdfunding round, the fans are involved in the creation of the content from the outset. This unique approach to content financing builds on the success of Lightfold’s recent crowdfunding round for Godspeed, which secured a multi-million dollar distribution deal after achieving over 2.2M views on YouTube, being selected for eight international festivals, and winning Telly and Collision Awards.

Fans looking to support Doomsweepers can head to the Lightfold website and watch the official 4-minute first look on YouTube.
